Not quite able to quite contain his infectious glee, J.R. Lemon is clearly pleased with his role in the new NBC drama series THE NIGHT SHIFT. J.R. portrays Nurse Kenny at San Antonio Memorial Hospital and he is know as the bartender of the E.R. — not because he is serving drinks, but because he is the one everyone turns to with their problems. He is the keeper of secrets and the man who knows how to get things done.

Kenny is also a notorious prankster, which is just another layer of fun for J.R. Getting to combine all these qualities into one character is like a dream come true. He loves that he gets to bring the humor and keep things from getting to heavy and dark in a world where lives are on the line every hour, every day.

THE NIGHT SHIFT may be comprised of characters that thrive on adrenaline, better known as “adrenaline junkies” of the E.R., but for Kenny, it is his family. As a nurse, he looks up to the doctors he supports and yet thinks of them as his big brothers, and because they are all family to Kenny, they trust him and confide in him. He is there inside-man and one who can make miracles happen in the bureaucracy that they all have to work in.

Crazy things happen between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. on the night shift, and while the doctors are saving lives, it is the nurses who keep the wheels of the E.R. running smoothly and are ready to assist no matter what insane medical emergency comes in their doors.

To hear more of what J.R. had to share about working on THE NIGHT SHIFT and the fun he had working on the show, be sure to check out this exclusive video interview:

THE NIGHT SHIFT premieres Tuesday, May 27th at 10:00 p.m. on NBC. (Editor’s note: Special thanks goes to NBC Universal Television Group which made this interview possible with a sponsored trip to the set of “The Night Shift.”)
