CAPRICA returns with more Cylons, avatars and political intrigue (2010)

Syfy’s dark, dramatic and incredibly mesmerizing sci-fi series “Caprica” returns for the second half of its first season. In “Caprica,” the Graystones and the Adamas are caught up in a gripping dance of politics, religion and on the verge of unleashing the one enemy that will bring about the genocide of the human race.

As introduced earlier this year, a young teenage girl, Zoe Graystone (Alessandra Torresani), is unwittingly swept up into a terrorist attack and killed. Yet due to her genius, a computerized version of herself, an avatar, still exists and was implanted in the first Cylon robot. Trying to escape in the mid-season finale, Zoe sacrificed herself in order to get away from her father’s greedy clutches. Her best friend, Lacy (Magda Apanowicz), even joined a radical terrorist organization to help her escape and now cannot get out.

So while Zoe and Lacy are struggling to find a way to keep Daniel Graystone (Eric Stolz) from capitalizing on his daughter’s genius and her imprisoned avatar, Daniel is fighting a corporate take-over from a bitter rival who only wants to bring down his empire.

Seeking aid in both reacquiring his company and sharing in a mutual grief over the loss of both their daughters’ lives, Daniel Graystone has an uneasy alliance with Joseph Adama (Esai Morales). Adama is an attorney whose entire family has deep roots with a powerful crime syndicate. His daughter Tamara (Genevieve Buechner) was also killed in the same terrorist bombing that claimed Zoe’s life. And while Zoe’s avatar is captive in a Cylon body, Tamara is stuck in the V-world — a virtual reality in which she cannot escape.

As if the intertwined and complex lives of the Graystones and Adamas were not enough to keep track of, the religious zealots responsible for Zoe and Tamara’s deaths and with whom Lacy is now caught up with are led by a high priestess Clarice (Polly Walker) who wants to bring about a violent religious conversion. As a member of a monotheistic religious organization which funds the STO terrorists, Clarice will literally do anything for further her cause. However, neither the Graystones nor the Adamas have yet ascertained her true diabolical nature and she has befriended Daniel’s wife Amanda (Paula Malcomson) in order to steal Zoe’s avatar technology.

The Adamas and Graystones may not realize it yet, but they are about to unleash the one thing that humanity will truly regret: the Cylons; and with a little religious indoctrination by Clarice to point the Cylons in the right direction, humanity’s days are now numbered.

“Caprica” is the story of the creation of the greatest threat to humanity ever known. It is the story that leads into the “Battlestar Galactica” war. Find out how it all began — who pushed the final button setting these horrific events in motion.

“Caprica” returns Tuesday, October 5th at 10:00 p.m. on Syfy.
